Mike Piedt’s Testimony of God’s Grace: From Homelessness & Addiction to a Servant of Christ’s Church

Mike turned to drugs and alcohol at around eleven or twelve years of age. Later in life, he would end up homeless, pursuing a life on the streets. But one day, God miraculously opened his eyes to the good news about Jesus. And he’s never been the same. He’s now a member of his church where he faithfully serves as a deacon.

Denominations & Traditions Chart

Below is a basic denominations & traditions chart I made for the residents while working at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. I’m hesitant to share this here because, admittedly, its overly simplistic and I suspect many will find it unsatisfying or maybe even at times misleading for that reason. Nonetheless, for someone who is less familiar and looking simply to get a basic acquaintance with the general landscape, I hope this can provide a helpful starting place, notwithstanding the understandable short comings of something as brief as this.

Doctrine Class — Milwaukee Rescue Mission

On Wednesday mornings I volunteer at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission and teach a basic doctrine class in their New Journey rehabilitation program, as well as preach chapel. Attached is a zip file to the full slides and handouts I use for the class, as well as other resources. There are 24 lessons total (originally composed spring of 2018).

Work What God Is Working (Philippians 2:12-13)

Today I had the privilege of delivering the charge at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission where some men from their recovery program, New Journey, were graduating from the program today. Two of these men were individuals I was assigned to and worked with directly when I worked for this program last year.

You Don’t Have What It Takes (MRM Graduation Charge)

You Don’t Have What It Takes
Graduation charge
New Journey program at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission
December 28th, 2018

Kevin was one of my first client’s when I began working in the New Journey program at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission back in March. A little over 9 months later, he’s now also my first graduate — the first man to graduate who was assigned to me as his advocate.

As many of you know, as of November I’ve since moved on from employment at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission; I’m now working for my church, CrossWay. But I’ve been able to stay connected with Kevin, through my volunteer teaching at the Mission, and because Kevin attends CrossWay.

I’m incredibly proud of what Kevin has accomplished thus far, or more properly, the changes that God has worked in his life over the course of this past year. He’s an entirely new person today, even as God continues to do work in his life. I can look back at old habits that he has since identified and continues to change. He plans on pursuing education and job training, even as he’s already done, to further advance his career opportunities. And he is heavily invested in his church, with a deep appreciate for the role of the church in his life. Most importantly though, he places his faith in Christ.
